Sports

Dedicated to Great Results

Sports Medicine and Injuries

Being an athlete, while enjoyable, also comes with the risk of injury. Some injuries tend to be more commonly associated with certain sports. For example, sports that rely heavily on running with abrupt stops, starts and changes in direction such as basketball, soccer and football, tend to pose a greater risk of knee injuries with the stress these movements put on the joint. A physical therapist specializing in sports medicine becomes familiar with these various injuries, understanding their cause, and how best to treat them with the goal of restoring an individual back to a state of health that will allow them to continue their athletic pursuits. Whether you are a competitive athlete or a weekend warrior, you may benefit from sports medicine services offered at HPT.

For the High school athlete:

  • Reaching athletic potential
  • Preventing injury
  • Fast return to sport after injury
  • Scholarship potential

For the Mature athlete:

  • Staying active in desired sport
  • Avoiding injury
  • Balancing sports level goals with limitations
  • Balancing sports with overall wellness

Some common Sports Medicine injuries:

  • ACL sprain/tear
  • UCL ligament sprain/tear i.e. “Tommy John”
  • Rotator cuff sprain/strain/tear
  • Tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Back pain
  • Shin splints
  • Plantar fasciitis
These are only a few. Many injuries and conditions fall under the category of sports medicine.
