Adding massage to our physical therapy regiment allows us to provide a comprehensive treatment approach, and our patients have seen the results. We do not, however, recommend using massage as the only treatment for pain, because it is often not addressing all the impairments that are associated with orthopedic problems.
If you do not have an orthopedic problem, massage is a perfectly acceptable “stand-alone” treatment. People tend to get muscle tightness or turgor as a result of working out vigorously. Massage has proven to be very successful at decreasing muscle tightness and restoring a supple feel to muscle bellies. One must understand when making a massage appointment what goals they are trying to accomplish. Relaxation is usually easy to accomplish with massage. If pain relief is the goal, then the problem may require a more in depth “combined” treatment approach. HPT is very pleased with our partnership with Ready, Set, Relax Massage Therapy. |
