Certified Custom Orthotic Measurement and Fitting
A custom orthotic is a custom-molded, individually designed shoe insert that is used to treat various conditions of the foot and ankle. Structural foot and ankle deviations can lead to abnormal lower extremity biomechanics with weight bearing. This, in turn, can lead to various lower extremity and back pathologies. Orthotics are effective in relieving pain and other common complaints, and may be recommended to align and support the foot or ankle, prevent or correct foot deformities, and to improve the overall function of the foot or ankle. Custom biomechanical orthotics assist in the control of excess motion in the joints of the ankle and foot and can help to balance the foot during walking. In the clinic a cast is made of the foot, which is sent to an orthotic company. The finished foot orthotic is usually returned within 2-3 weeks. The physical therapist will fit the orthotic and instruct the patient in a wearing schedule.
